Best Photo Shoot Locations in Sedona

Sedona engagement photo shoot

Sedona is rightfully considered one of the most photogenic places on earth. With its iconic red rock formations, it is no surprise that people flock to this beautiful destination from all over the world. The moderate climate year-round and array of options makes Sedona an ideal destination for nature lovers and sightseers alike.

Capturing The Beauty Of Sedona: Best Spots For a Photo Shoot

While you really can’t pick a bad photo location in Sedona, there are a few places that stand out from the rest. Here is my Photographer Approved list of some of the best places to capture unforgettable photos. There is something for everyone from beautiful, easy to access spots, to places that require a hike and love of off road adventure. If you're looking to capture stunning photos in Sedona, consider one of the following places.

Easy to Access Locations:

West fork trail

Consider West Fork Trail which winds through Oak Creek Canyon revealing hidden gems tucked away deep within towering red canyon walls. This gorgeous location has been called the mini grand canyon. Features flat trails along a creekside pathway. 1.5+ mile easy roundtrip hike. A few shallow stream crossings are required to fully appreciate all that this location has to offer, so come prepared. One great perks of this location (when it’s hot out) is it maintains a cooler temperature than most other places in Sedona, due to the the high canyon walls and creek that runs through the area.

Crescent Moon Ranch

Crescent Moon Ranch at Red Rock Crossing offers stunning scenery along Oak Creek with gorgeous views of Cathedral Rock. Short, flat trails provide easy access to several different backdrops. Great spot for families and people of all ages.

While you’re here check out Lovers Knoll, another great vista point just 5 minutes away. Or consider taking a 15 minutes hike to Secret Slickrock from this location for higher perspective views of Cathedral Rock.

Secret SlickRock

This is one of my favorite easy access locations. It’s located just above Crescent Moon Ranch park and is only a short 5 minute hike from the trailhead. Secret Slickrock offers an incredible backdrop of Cathedral Rock unlike anywhere else in Sedona. At certain times of the year there are pools of water for reflection images. With expansive sky views, this spot is especially perfect during the magic hour leading up to sunset.

Baby Bell Rock

Get close to this iconic formation while capturing its grandeur against a clear blue sky backdrop. This locations provides a wide variety of backdrops all within an easy hike. Light at Bell Rock is best in morning or mid-late afternoon.

Munds Wagon

This is a super easy access location with a very short walk. Only a 5 minute drive from Tlaquepaque Arts Village and close to town. This area is surrounded by red rocks and a small seasonal stream. Like most of Sedona, parking at Munds Wagon can be limited, so plan accordingly when visiting.

For Adventure Lovers:

If you love the thrill of a 4WD ride, or don’t shy from a hike in some of the most spectacular places in all of creation, then consider one of these breathtaking locations.

Devils Bridge

This iconic sandstone arch creates a dramatic photo setting. On this adventure hike you’ll enjoy beautiful mountainside views before ascending towards Devil’s Bridge. A 4WD vehicle will make it a reasonable 1.8 mile round-trip hike, or 4 mile round trip without an off road vehicle. This location is super popular, so be prepared to see lots of other nature enthusiasts around when you visit.

Cathedral Rock

Hike to the top of Cathedral Rock at sunset for intimate red rock vistas with sweeping valley views. Cathedral Rock creates one of the most unforgettable backdrops for photos in all of Sedona. Requires a steep 1.2 mile roundtrip hike. But the unparalleled views are totally worth it!!

Merry Go Round Rock

An epic, picturesque spot for adventure lovers. Located off Schnebly Hill Road, up the road from Munds Wagon. Prepare yourself for a rocky, bumpy 45min drive outside of town. While this location requires a 4WD or high clearance vehicle to reach, it is totally worth the effort! Sedona has numerous breathtaking places to consider, but Merry-Go-Round Rock takes the cake.

Subway Cave

This location is best at sunrise or in the early morning.  5.3 mile hike round-trip (about 3 hours). If you want to get away from crowds, Subway Cave is a great spot to consider.
